Use this Easy Hack to Design Your Facebook Cover Photo

Yesterday, I was in the middle of designing a Facebook cover photo for a client and I googled the dimensions just to make sure they hadn’t changed (you know how Facebook is always keeping you one your toes…usually to everyone’s dismay). I stumbled across this incredibly helpful Facebook page that shows ALL of the dimensions for the Facebook cover photo.

Have you ever designed your Facebook cover photo only to upload and see that the profile picture is covering up something important? Yeah, me too. And it’s so frustrating! But that’s why I’m so excited about this and I don’t know how I haven’t seen this sooner! This lovely little diagram gives you dimensions between all the areas that might cover up areas of your Cover Photo image. Amazing, right?

Again, you can visit Facebook’s help center for more information (and this diagram), but I just wanted to show you it and how helpful it really is!

SOME HELPFUL TIPS ABOUT DESIGNING YOUR FACEBOOK COVER PHOTO:

• Use Canva or PicMonkey to design your own DIY Facebook cover photo if you don’t own Photoshop or Illustrator.

• When saving your image, use JPEG format when you have more photo images and PNG format when your have more text or vector (non-photograph) art. PNG format usually creates crisper text than JPEG and JPEG is optimized better for actual photograph images.

• Consider doubling these sizes (so the entire graphic would be 1702 x 630) for a graphic that still looks crisp on retina and HD displays. Your image will still load the same, but it will look great on all devices!

And now I’m adding revising my Ruby and Sass Facebook Cover Photo to my to-do list for next week!

Tell me about the Facebook Cover Photo for your business – do you use it to advertise your products and services,  is it just a pretty picture or BOTH?!
