Drool Worthy Brands- Craft Beer
I want to start off by saying that I don’t like beer. I think it tastes like wet soggy stale bread (delightful, right?) But here’s the thing about a lot of the products in the Craft Beer Companies- their branding makes me WANT to like beer. My husband is slightly neurotic about his been choices (the craftier, the better- and the more local or obscure the better too) and I’ll be honest, like with most things, I’ll point out ones he should buy based on the packaging. And really, when you don’t like beer, is there any other way?

WHO ARE THEY?

Craft Beer Companies and Micro Breweries have been popping up all over the place in the past few years. An alternative to the mass-produced nationwide companies like Budweiser (hey hey, StL girls represent!), they provide a small batch (and often local) option for beer lovers.

3 WORDS TO DESCRIBE THEIR BRAND:

Fresh, Unique, Bold

HOW THEY’RE ROCKING IT:

Each Brewery has their own distinct look and within that style are coordinating packages for each different flavor. Most appear to be hand-drawn or vintage in nature. They give off the feel of going to a local pub with your friends. It’s rustic, but friendly. Vintage, with a touch of hipster. And vintage as they may look, they’ve completely modernized from what the standard beer packaging was: 90’s metallics and gradients. Silver, Red and Blue and all with the look of “ice” or “crystallization”. Take a look at any Budweiser or Michelob standard packaging and that’s what you’ll find. Now look at Fat Tire or Urban Chestnut and note the differences. That ain’t yo’ parents beer (well, they might like it too). There’s hints of nostalgia, Urban Chestnut even includes traditions and old heritage in its designs– the crests are of German, Irish and English descents. Cool, right? So cool that big brands are copying after the craft beer industry (Bud’s Landshark, for example)
I just love that you can imagine these companies hiring an excited, aspiring designer or illustrator to create labels and packaging for their new beer.
