This year I had the amazing opportunity on my very first logo to work with Julie Blanner of Coordinately Yours. I’d followed her blog for a few years and she has great DIY Posts (a nice mix of quick projects for the busy mom and some more luxurious ones). My favorite is most definitely her Marshmallow Buttercream Icing (although I must confess that when I make it I substitute 1/3 of the butter for cream cheese…making it Marshmallow Cream Cheese Buttercream Icing. It’s so good, I’m not even ashamed.).
Anyway, I was taking a class in logo design and really wanted to work on a real logo instead of just making something up. I took a chance and put a post out on Facebook asking if anyone was in need of a logo design and within the hour Julie responded saying she was looking for a refresh on her current, self created logo. I was a mixture of stunned, excited and completely nervous. I honestly didn’t think anyone was going to respond to my post, much less someone who had quite an established and awesome business.
We talked more and couldn’t wait to get started. She wanted a re-design based on what she had originally, wanted to keep the same central idea (using dots and soft color palette) as well as the typefaces that was already a part of her brand.
Here’s what her old logo looked like:
We kept the calligraphic typeface as well as the elegant serif font below it and just re-imagined it a bit. I wanted to make the polka dots just a little more soft and elegant to match the brand and Julie’s style. Julie frequently includes photos of her home on her blog and you can tell just by browsing a few of them that she’s got a simple, delicate and classic style, with a bit of modern thrown in. That’s what I hoped to accomplish with her new logo, and I think we were both delighted with how it turned out!
The Updated Logo:
In the midst of creating Julie’s logo, she emailed me and asked if I’d be willing to work on some business cards for her as well. She had just gotten the exciting news of being invited to a super exclusive Better Homes and Garden Event (I told you she was super successful, right?) and wanted to up the wow factor in her business cards (and she wanted ME to do that, what the what!?). Since she was getting them printed with MOO.com we had the option to print front and back. As a side note, I highly recommend MOO to anyone needing business cards- they’re awesome and their quality is great.
See what I mean? Julie splurged on the LUXE cards. Perfectly perfect.
Since her logo has been complete, Julie’s had a complete site re-design. For those of you that know me, I’m pretty sure you can imagine my squeal of joy when I saw my shiney new logo sitting there dead center at the top of the site. So be sure to check it out there too! And while you’re there take a browse around, I have no doubt you’ll find a recipe or two and some beautiful but oh so easy decorating tips! It was such an honor to be able to create this logo for Julie, she’s such a sweet, caring person and I’ll never be able to express my full gratitude for all her help and the kind words she’s given me. And let’s not forget about that icing recipe. Or this Brown Sugar Cake with Salted Caramel that I made for my mom’s birthday this year. Delish.
